Before you buy a vinyl sign, here's some tips you should know.

General Sign Tips

Look Good or Readable? A sign's main purpose is to attract customers to your business. Although using many different colors in your sign makes it look nice, often it also makes it impossiable to read from any significant distance. When selecting a sign design keep in mind readability. If you want more color, use it to accent less important parts of your sign.

2mil or 3mil? Not all shops offer you a choice of what type of vinyl to use. Know your vinyl because it could make a significant difference when getting sign quotes. Just remember 2mil is good, 3mil is cheap. 2mil vinyl is a 5-7 year vinyl, where 3mil is a 3-5 year vinyl. The cost of 3 mil vinyl is typically 1/3 the cost of a good 2mil vinyl. At Sign-on we offer not only 2mil and 3mil, but we now offer a a 2mil vinyl which is a 8-10 year vinyl.

What do you do? When designing your sign layout, leave room for a description of your business. Many times company names do not describe what it is exactly that the company does. When we chose our logo, we always add the tag of "custom vinyl signs" or "t-shirts" or "specialty" so that when people see our logos and advertisements they know what products we are selling.

Logos and Colors. A catchy logo can get your company recognized. When choosing a logo, remember to pick your logo and colors wisely. Often companies try too hard to have a good logo. Keep it simple, some of the most recognized logos are simple designs. If you recognize this logo... then you can see how simple can be effective.

Banner Tips

Banner Storage Remember to always roll your banner with the graphics facing outward. Rolling your banner this way will prevent the vinyl from creasing and cracking.

Large Banners If you are using a large banner and it is to remain outside for any significant amount of time, you should make sure that it has wind pockets cut in it to prevent damage caused by high winds.

Installing Banners Remember to support the banner using the middle grommets or the pull strings. Hanging a banner from the four corners of the banner is easy, but will cause the banner to sag and also cause it to tear much easier.

Magnetic Signs

Cleaning You should remove your magnetic signs once a week to wipe away condensation and dirt form the back of the magnetic sign.

Storage Always store you magnetic signs on a flat surface. Never fold your magnetic signs

Application Make sure you apply your magnetic signs on a flat, smooth surface. Placing a magnetic on top of body molding or body crease will allow wind to get underneath the sign and blow off while you are driving down the road.
